The aim of TWC Fair Traders is
to relieve the financial hardship of producer communities, mainly in developing countries, by promoting fair trade through:
- providing sales outlets for fairly traded goods
- supporting trade justice education and advocacy
- sponsoring fair trade projects both in the UK and overseas
Background
A Third World Crafts shop opened in Crown Mead, Wimborne in 1995 on a no-cost charity lease. Its aim was, and continues to be, to promote "Fair Trade". All of the products sold by the shop are sourced from companies committed to fair trading.
The shop moved to its present premises in May 2005 and re-opened under the name TWC Fair Traders in June 2005. All the workers in the shop including the Manager are unpaid volunteers.
Additional Fair Trade outlets are provided by churches and other organisations on a sale or return basis.
We are a member of the British Association for Fair Trade Shops which screens importers to ensure that they are dealing (very) fairly with Third World producers. We support the Fairtrade Foundation and use their symbol to show we endorse their principles. (The Fairtrade Foundation logo only applies to foodstuffs.)
